Mobile Driving the Next Big Power Play in Local Deals
Executives from Foursquare, Loopt, Shopkick and Yelp speak of advances
at upcoming Deals 3D conference.
CHANTILLY, Va. (July 8, 2011) - Executives from leading mobile solutions
providers Foursquare, Loopt, Shopkick and Yelp
will talk about how the daily deal and group
buying segment will move into its next phase
during BIA/Kelsey’s
July 18-19 conference, Deals
3D: The New Local Value Chain. BIA/Kelsey,
adviser to companies in the local media market,
has been actively tracking the accelerated penetration of mobile in
the daily deal ecosystem and will report on how mobile advertising
is taking new forms, including more “instant” deals
to consumers.
“We’ve known for some time that daily deals and group
buying are evolving rapidly, and now this year we’ve seen mobile
push this even further,” said Mike Boland, senior analyst and
program director of BIA/Kelsey’s Mobile Local Media practice. “In
this ‘Act II’ of deals, people should understand how mobile
will drive all new models for deal sourcing, distribution and economics.
The mobile segment at Deals 3D will be entirely devoted to this subject.”
Many of the major news
announcements in the past month have focused on mobile
deals. When Deals 3D convenes July 18-19, executives from these mobile companies
will be featured speakers on the mobile panel Deals
Act Two: Mobile & Social.
In the session “Heavy Hitter Interviews,” Tristan Walker, director,
business development, Foursquare; Evan Tana, vice president of product management,
Shopkick; and Eric Singley, consumer product lead, Yelp, will discuss how the
group buying-centric phase is giving way to a broader set of mobile and instant
deals. In the session “Cutting-Edge Demos,” Brian Knapp, vice president
of business operations, chief administrative officer, Loopt; Alistair Goodman,
CEO, Placecast; Dan Visnick, vice president, marketing, The Dealmap; and Sunil
Vemuri, chief product officer, reQall, will explain what mobile deal products
look like and examine tactical subjects such as deal sourcing, distribution,
product development and user interfaces.
“We’re not exaggerating when we assert that mobile will be a profound
game changer for deals — for merchants and consumers alike,” said
Jed Williams, program director of BIA/Kelsey’s Social Local Media practice. “For
businesses, mobile can deliver a dynamic customer marketing solution. And for
consumers, mobile creates synergy among social connections, location awareness
and purchase intent, resulting in a more compelling deals experience.”
